The Atz-Thomas Wedding
Strasburg Railroad, Strasburg, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.
May 11, 1985

With the tourist season in the wings, the Strasburg Railroad had a special "start-of-the-season debut" Saturday, when Gary Thomas and Donna Atz tied the knot, en route from Paradise to Strasburg, Pennsylvania.

The couple, who will reside in Woodlyn, were wed on the 20-minute return trip of the sightseeing excursion of the steam train. The 60 person wedding party boarded the train in Strasburg and enjoyed a sightseeing tour as they rode to the Paradise station where they met the bride and groom.

The newly-remodeled car used for the wedding was an enclosed car with a stained glass ceiling. "We made it look like a chapel inside," said Gary Thomas, who works for AT&T in Wilmington, Delaware. The car was decorated with crepe paper and wedding bells, which the couple left on the car for anyone who rode in it later in the day.

The idea for the wedding started as a bit of a joke, said Thomas. Donna and I are involved in model train collecting. We got started through Donna's stepfather who had friends at the Strasburg Railroad", he said. "He introduced us to Ellis Bachman, vice president, and we found out that we could actually hold our wedding on the railroad!

"We've known each other for 10 years, so this is as much a party for our friends as our wedding," he said. The reception was held at the Historic Strasburg Inn, Strasburg, Pennsylvania.
